2005 Preparing for the launch

After a long rainy winter, it finally dried out enough in May, to finish off the parts of the hull that where inaccessable when the boat was in the cradle before the move:

June 24, 2005. Finally have a new rudder fabricated entirely out of 316L stainless steel. (It doesn't look shiney because I had it sandblasted to rough up the surface to hold paint. Had to dig a trench and get some help from my wife and a couple of other guys in the yard to install it. I then had to fabricate a new bottom fitting because the old one doesn't line up properly.

Work is proceeding on the electrical and engine control panel. The goal is to hook up just what's needed for steering and propulsion then put it in the water and motor a mile down river to our floating home where I can moor it by the back deck.

Above we have the "kiwi feather prop" installed, and used up the last of the bottom paint with another partial coat of the hull.

The steering is hooked up and the engine controls, and bilge pumps so we are ready to launch. The launch is scheduled for September 2, 2005! Still plenty of work to do inside, but we can motor around and move it next to our floating home where I can work on the inside easier.
