2008

Went out on the river in late May to watch this mock battle between a replica of the "Lady Washington", an 18th century early American vessel, and a similar design. (Very noisy cannon firing with a lot of smoke. It made the crew on the Chinese freighters anchored nearby come on deck to see what was going on.

Started installing the remaining interior equipment.

Starting with the stove above...

And LPG tank below. This 20 pound capacity tank is made out of fiberglass. Its great! Cost half as much as an aluminum tank, never corrodes, and you can see the fuel level through the side of the tank! Its also a bit smaller than the Aluminum tanks for same capacity, so I can fit three in this locker even though I designed it to just hold two of the aluminum tanks.

Below is the vacuum cylinder refrigerator I built with the cold plate installed.

The compressor unit for the refrigerator resides under the floor in the pilot house (below).

Just to the left in the pilot house closet is the dual throttle linkage I build (since I could find none commercially available at a reasonable price to fit the Italian made throttles I'm using.

Below I'm connecting the vacuum pump to the refrigerator cylinder. This is used to periodically pump down the vacuum cylinder to as low of pressure as I can get. Since the cylinder is made of wood and fiberglass and epoxy resin, it doesn't hold vacuum indefinitely so I will need to pump it down every couple of weeks or so.

Beginning the work of building up the sides of the refrigerator cylinder with structural foam and fiberglass, to hold a shelf and the lid.

The LED light fixture I built for the galley below during final assembly and testing. Some new light bars just became available providing natural white light with high efficiency. I've also added red illumination for night time to preserve night vision.

Below a close up of the controls. Toggle switch goes between RED - OFF - WHITE and the rotary switch controls six levels of brightness for each color.

Also working on the head, with the Electra/San installed below.

Below the LED light fixture installed in the galley. Photo at night with no flash. It actually appears quite a bit brighter to the eye than apparent in this photo. The fixture as both white and red settings...

You can also see the stepped shelf for the lid completed in the refrigerator cylinder.
